What can be said about these two that has not already been said? A great deal. I mean, it's not like they're super-popular, or even mediocrely-popular. Personally, Blade blames the chicken head thing.
This is actually one of Blade's favourite manga stories. Not just because he thinks it's one of the few stories that is actually really funny, but also because it is a beautiful illustration of Ranma Saotome, The Ego That Walks Like A Man Or Sometimes Woman.
Think about it. Ranma voluntarily engages himself to a man who gives "deep tongueing" a whole new meaning. He wears a metal corset and lacey lingerie (hey, maybe this story should be more popular). He starves himself nearly to death, both abuses and lets his body be abused, alienates his friends and family, and for what? Just to beat a guy. To beat a guy who defeated him once, in something that wasn't even a fight.
This story rules. If you haven't seen it, in either manga or anime versions, you owe yourself to check it out. It'll change the way you look at Ranma. At Frenchmen. At French food. At Frenchmen with giant tongues who make martial arts styles based on French food. At the meaning of life itself.
Or you can just check it out to laugh at Madame St Paul's ridiculous hair. Your choice.
