Seven hundred years ago, Ayeka was engaged to her older half-brother Yosho. During the raid by the space pirate Ryoko, Yosho fled Jurai and vanished into the depths of space. For a little over ten years Ayeka waited for his return faithfully, but when no word or contact with him came back she decided to set out after him herself. Taking her little sister Sasami with her, she set out in her treeship and placed herself in suspended animation until her Guardians could locate some sign of Yosho or Ryoko.
She was awakened when her servants found signs of Ryoko and she chased the pirate to earth. Without her full power, Ryoko was easily subdued, and the young man found with her was similarly imprisoned. However when Sasami allowed the captive Tenchi out of his cell, the chaos that followed resulted in Ayeka's ship being destroyed and with herself stranded on Earth, apparently cut off from her family. She was shocked to learn of Yosho's ultimate fate, and he still maintains the facade of an old man in front of her despite her affections having long since transferred over to his grandson Tenchi.
Ayeka is a young woman who prefers to think of herself as very regal. Much of her self-image is based on her status as the princess of the most powerful empire in the universe. Despite this, she is more than willing to help out when asked; however, her lack of practical experience with daily chores tends to undermine her efforts. Ayeka also has a distinct taste for sake, and easily gets drunk. While intoxicated she acts far more spoiled and has been known to throw temper tantrums, especially when Ryoko is involved.
Ayeka, like most nobles of Jurai, has access to Jurai Energy. In reality this is a form of power produced by the sentient trees that can only grow on her homeworld. These trees form symbiotic relationships with the royal family, providing them with greatly enhanced lifespans, increased physical prowess and other benefits. Ayeka can access this energy directly in two ways: first, she can summon a number of tiny floating logs which form a force field and secondly she can transform into a combat form which allows her to operate in space, fly, produce destructive blasts of energy and other superhuman feats. Finally she has two Jurai Guardians, sentient logs capable of teleporting her and others, producing forcefields and energy blasts themselves. While less powerful than Ayeka herself, these guardians are reasonably potent.
