Since he was very young, Batsu has been raised by his mother, Shizuku. Batsu grew up a very athletic and energetic child who took to martial arts with preternatural ease and mainly taught himself. Batsu also grew up with a very powerful moral code, and he would often intervene in cases he saw as unjust and try to correct them with his fists. Because he wasn't very good at explaining himself, Batsu developed a reputation as a bully despite the fact that all his fights were done for good reasons.
When he was sixteen, Batsu's mother vanished from her job at Taiyo High School. He transferred to the school to look for clues. During the course of his investigation, he befriended Hinata and Kyosuke, who aided him. However he found himself fighting against his own feelings when he learned that his new friend Kyosuke was the brother of his true enemy, Hyo Imawano. He also discovered that Hyo had brainwashed Raizo, the principal of Justice High School, into doing his bidding. Batsu fought Raizo at first with his full strength, and was startled to learn that the man was his real father. However, with the power of his zealous ideals and true friendship, Batsu was able to unite the students and rescue his kidnapped mother, free his father from Hyo's insidious mind control and even cause Hyo to rethink his chosen path.
Batsu is a very straightforward person. He is a bit of a slacker at school, but that is something he is trying to change. Despite Hinata and Kyosuke's help (or maybe because of the mixed messages they give him), he is finding this difficult. He still tends to sleep in late and almost miss classes most of the time. He has a very clear code of conduct, and a fierce belief in himself and his friends. Batsu loves his mother a great deal and works a newspaper route despite it being against school policy so that he can buy her presents. Since an incident in his childhood he is very nervous around dogs, but loves cats. While not explicitly in love, he and Hinata obviously care about each other a great deal. Batsu loves ninjas. His favourite book of all time is Secrets of Ninja Martial Arts.
Batsu is a powerful martial artist despite his youth and lack of (and disdain for) formalized training. Batsu is one of the most powerful fighters in his age group, able to leap great distances, project energy blasts from his hands and produce attacks that literally burn the air around him. Despite this, Batsu has not yet reached his full potential.
