A native of Southtown, Mary Ryan was raised by her father; what happened to her mother hasn't been revealed. Her father had taught her that crime was a social disease, and from a very young age Mary was determined to be the cure. At an extremely young age, she achieved her dream, becoming an undercover agent for the police. In the course of her work, she met and become very friendly with another agent named Butch. He gave her the nickname "Blue Mary", based on a drink he'd created that he could "always rely on". Butch also trained Mary in the fundamentals of martial arts. However, he was killed on assignment, which devastated the young woman. She vowed to continue with his work of taking out the scum of the earth, and still wears Butch's leather jacket in memory of him.
Blue Mary is a dedicated, determined young woman. While easy-going and cheerful, her primary drive in life is her job: to do it right, do it well, trash the bad guys, and get out safely. When on a mission, Mary is focused and driven, and her competence and dedication is beyond question. Though usually high-spirited, she oftimes gets lonely. Despite this, she is somewhat resistant to getting too close to others, both due to the nature of her work and because she'd rather not have to worry too much about what could happen to them. She has a bit of a temper, and woe betide the poor bastard criminal who riles it up.
Blue Mary practiced Commando Sambo from an early age, and like everything else in her life, worked at it until she excelled. While she lacks flashy projectiles and other such chi tricks, she is deadly at close combat, applying a blistering away of strikes, throws, holds and reversals to incapacitate her opponents.
