Born from the unholy union of a vampire and a human woman, Donovan's true father is unknown. When he was young, a terrible incident occured in his village, killing everyone including his mother. Donvan never talks about this incident. Afterwards he wandered the world, studying Buddhism and learning to keep a tight leash on his supernatural powers and bestial instincts. One day in a Tibetan monastery, he came upon a monsterous sentient sword known as Dylek. He tamed the vicious sword to his will and set out to rid the world of evil.
Donovan is a very stoic individual. He is a devout Buddhist and believes deeply in doing the right thing and helping out others. His primary quest is to annihilate all the darkstalkers of the world. He also seeks a way to control his powers and retain his humanity. The only real human connection he has is with Anita, who he cares for deeply and who he believes has a great destiny. He has chosen himself as her protector and has made it his mission to see that she regains all her emotions, no matter what the cost to his own soul is in the process.
Donovan has a wide variety of powers. His supernatural ancestry makes him inhumanly strong and tough. He practices an eclectic mix of martial arts and has access to a wide variety of holy powers. He can bind and banish evil spirits with the prayer beads around his neck, and he uses the beads extensively to control Dylek. He has telekinetic abilities he uses to help him wield the sword, and can summon elemental forces and spirits capable of causing a great deal of property damage. It is strongly hinted that Donovan's true powers could exceed even those of all the other Darkstalkers, including Pyron, a being that devoured worlds as a hobby.
