Little is known about the early life of Frederick von Purgstall. Over 200 years ago, in Vienna, he was approached by Hamilcal Valcus, who recruited the man to be one of the twelve zoalords that the god-like being Arkanphel had deputised him to find. Whatever he might have thought at the time, in the centuries since Purgstall has become one of the most loyal and dependable zoalords. He believes absolutely in Arkanphel's vision, and furthering the goals of Chronos. Indeed, so fervently does he believe in the ideals of Chronos, that he can occasionally be blind to corruption right before his eyes.
Purgstall can reasonably be considered one of the fairest and most honourable of the zoalords. While he may not hold to the same morals as you or I, he nonetheless holds to them firmly, without compromising his integrity. He is truly concerned about the welfare of those under his command, and those who lives have been placed in his sphere of responsibility, down to the millions of ordinary civilians who do not as of yet even know of his existence. If needs be, he is quite willing to personally enter battle in order to defend the lives of those he is sworn to protect, though it is a course he holds as a last resort.
It is not wise to underestimate Purgstall, as some of his fellow zoalords do. While cautious, he is no coward. While concerned about his underlings, he is quite capable of expending troops for important enough objectives. While he believes absolutely in Chrono's goals, he is not unwilling to question his master's plans, or the methods of his fellow zoalords. He is willing to be patient and carefully plan out what needs to be done, and he is also willing to delegate authority to comrades or subordinates more capable of handling specific tasks than him. The fact he is quite skilled at both of these helps. Purgstall is likely one of the older zoalords, and to a limited extent, is something of a spokesperson for many of them.
In terms of personal power, like all zoalords, Purgstall is more a force of nature than a mere fighter. In his human form, he possesses the usual inhuman strength, speed, stamina, and the ability to fly and project powerful energy blasts from the zoacrystal that normally remains hidden in his forehead. His true power, however, is far more impressive. Purgstall is a master of lightning and atmospheric electricity. In his true zoalord form, he can call down lightning bolts over a wide range, powerful enough to annihilate large buildings and reduce city blocks to pools of magma. As well, he can project even more powerful blasts than in his human form directly. His main defence are powerful energy fields which he can maintain around himself, serving as both a shield and a damaging environmental hazard to those foolishly attempting to attack directly. If he can be brought to close combat, he is at a disadvantage, as he is not much stronger then than in his human form... however, taking advantage of this weakness is much more difficult than it sounds. As well, like all zoalords, Purgstall can telepathically communicate with, control, or even kill zoanoids. Within his sphere of influence, this power is nearly absolute.
