Koruma is one of two Phoenix soldiers directly subordinate to Kiima. Though young, the two are talented fighters. Unfortunately, they are also immature, ignorant, and not terribly intelligent, facts which vex Kiima to no end and thus lead to the two frequently being on the receiving end of her wrath. Koruma is mean-spirited, but in the same sense that a school bully is mean-spirited. Not much willing to take the initiative on things, he nonetheless follows orders more or less loyally, taunts his opponents, gets angry and sulky when he's reprimanded, and whines when he's beaten up. He doesn't seem to resent Kiima much for her ill treatment of him, more seeing it as the natural order of things. Koruma is the slightly more quiet of the two Phoenix soldiers, but that's only a question of slight degree: they could easily be twin brothers in personality.
Koruma is a powerful fighter, in talent and training standing far above most of the soldiers of the mountain despite his youth. While no match for Kiima, he is more than capable of giving even opponents like Ranma and Ryouga difficulty if he has the room the make use of his flying abilities. The sword he carries seems to be as much for show as anything, for her rarely uses it, instead relying on his legitimately impressive strength and the ability to fire needle-like feathers from his wings as his main offensive strategies. The main chink in his armour, aside from stupidity, is the fact that when splashed with cold water he becomes a human version of himself, as seen in the picture to the right. In this form, he is all but helpless; for all his bravado, even a child can beat him up as a human.
