Although I like Nodoka well enough, I do think it's a pity that she basically encouraged writers to be lazy. Takahashi used the same formula of "Nodoka almost finds out who her son is! But doesn't!" in every story she appeared in until the eventual denouement ("Nodoka almost finds out who her son is! And does!"); she never really grew much as a character beyond her initial joke, which probably helps explain why so few fanfic writers have come up with anything fresh or interesting she lends to the Tendo family dynamic.
At least with the manga all out, it's no longer in vogue to use "Nodoka finds out!" as the launching point for Ranma fanfics, another lazy crutch many writers (most certainly including us) relied on in the 90s.
