One of the incredibly few things that Super S has going for it, aside from the Quartet, was the fact its ending amazingly didn't suck. I mean, Sailor Moon Season endings sucking is almost a tradition, with S taking the cake for "Oh my god you cannot expect me to believe that awesome buildup let up to THIS pile of shit, right?" factor.
But Neherenia not being personally defeated per se, being free to leave, but in fact choosing to incarcerate herself again, alone forever, rather than admit her beauty was long gone? That was APPROPRIATE. The villain's true chains were not made by Queen Serenity, but self-forged. That actually had some meaty pathos to it.
So, of course, OF COURSE, they have to fuck it up. OF COURSE. Because that's what Sailor Moon is all about: making you like or care about something, then bitterly disappointing you.
On that note, do you feel good and bitterly disappointed, Inner Senshi fans? They were sure useful THIS season, weren't they? I mean, usually in each season they pretend, once or twice, that the Inners are good for something. Like, Makoto gets to kill a token monster-of-the-week or something. But not THIS time! They just suck! They suck so bad they cannot be bothered to actually devote an episode to each one of them for their powerups! They do Ami, then Rei, then say "fuck it" and lump Minako and Makoto together.
On the bright side, they actually succeeded in giving Ami a personality, something that had been tried and failed for three seasons prior. So, um, yay? We don't make fun of her as much anymore now, if it's any consolation, Ami fans. But then, it's probably more consolation that you got to see her naked. Not that I screencapped that.
She's still not as awesome as the Amazoness Quartet. Nyah!
