The Utena Saturn game is actually really cool. It, like very many anime-based games (and especially anime-based Saturn games), is a visual novel; sort of a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure in video game format, with pretty pictures and lots of lots of text, from whence you make decisions, and multiple endings. Most of these are fun, but fairly formulaic and forgettable, but there are some exceptions.

The Utena game is one of those exceptions. And the reason why is very simple: the exact same creative team that made the Utena TV series, notably Kunihiko Ikuhara, also worked on the game. Which means it is very true to the series (and to Ikuhara's highly warped sense of humour). The game takes place in four days (hence the colloquial Four Days In Ohtori name), in which you are a female transfer student who enters Ohtori, unaware both of the strangeness that occurs there and what in your past ties you so closely to it. It's a fully realised storyline, taking place in the Student Council arc (at best guess, between the Juri episode and The Castle Where Eternity Dwells), and where nearly all the extant characters have a role. All of the Seitokai (including Saionji) are important, and nearly everyone else who was there at least makes an appearence, including people such as Akio and Mikage.

This, incidentally, makes it pretty much canonical that Mikage was supposed to be at the school in the Student Council arc, just as I always assumed. EAT IT, FANBOYS!

(ahem)

Anyway, aside from the fairly complex and interesting storyline that due to lack of Japanese knowledge I frustratingly know not nearly enough of the details above, this game also has awesome art, both in the game itself and in the artbook that came with it.

Which is what this section is all about. Duh!
