ADV finally released Variable Geo on DVD! You can clearly thank Blade's nagging of old friend Andrew Kent/Avatar for that. After all, until Blade hassled him, he said they had no plans of doing it! Well, okay, technically he said that -when- Blade bugged him. And the DVD got announced like three weeks later. And Blade has since noticed Andrew responds to ALL queries about what ADV is doing with "we're not planning to do it", even when asked about things that later turn out to have obviously been in the works. And it's not like he sets company policy anyway. But that takes nothing away from Blade's great accomplishment, and you should all praise him for it and sent donations at the same time you run out for the DVD!

It is NOT, however, Blade's fault that the DVD is basically a VHS transfer with no extras, not even a clean opening. Not in the slightest.

(The quality of the DVDs and screencaps is still better than the El Hazard OAV2 DVDs, though. RAGE.)

Blade rather likes the Variable Geo OAVs. They're far from masterpieces, but they're not crap either: in fact, despite their flaws they're among the better video-game-to-anime transitions...which may be considered damning with faint praise. But they're well-animated, a lot of personality shows through from the spotlighted characters, the fights are nice, and the plotline hangs together fairly well aside from the Old Man And Little Girl. One thing Blade thought was interesting: the first episode was FULL of fanservice, as might be expected from the concept. But the second episode had a lot less, and the third episode had pretty much no more than the average shounen anime. Isn't that interesting?

So, anyway, enjoy the screencaps, unless you wanted porn, in which case you are kindly invited to fuck off.
