I will be honest: this book is what made me a fan of Variable Geo. I had originally bought it as a Christmas gift for a friend I knew liked the series, but found out that they already had the book, thus leaving me with it.

So, having been unexpectedly stuck with it, I leafed through the book and discovered something very important: it was FRICKING GORGEOUS. Seriously, this is a book by which all other game/OAV artbooks should be judged. Beautiful, exhaustive, meticulously organised, including full-page shots, character design sketches, box covers, a poster, mini-mangas and much more, the Complete Visual Collection is a godsend to anybody with any interest in the series or for that matter, any appreciation for good anime artbooks. Although it's not quite as lovely as, say, Der Mond, it's still well worth the effort to find.

So, having been wowed by the quality of the artbook I accidentally got, I decided to find more out about the series, with the end result being my love for the series in general, Chiho in particular, and these image galleries. Aren't you lucky?

The Complete Visual Collection is largely based on the VG OAV series, though it also covers several of the games and their artwork, and has a list, description and photo of nearly every VG product available at the time. Honestly, it's probably a better primer for the series to the Western fan than the OAV series itself, which while both pretty and not entirely without merit plot-wise, suffers from most of the same problems endemic with nearly all fighting game anime (rushed plot and poorly explained backstory, characters thrown in just to appear) and also concentrates a bit much on getting several of the girls to show off their goodies. Still worth watching IMO, but not the first thing I'd show somebody I was trying to get interested in the series. That being said, I still own a copy and impatiently wait for ADV to get around to putting it on DVD so I can get half-decent caps.

The entiriety of the CVC is not here, partially to encourage people to get the book itself, and partially because it's so DENSELY PACKED with stuff that it would have been difficult to get it all. So, if you like what you see, buy it and find out the rest for yourself!
