Michiru is an exceptional young woman. She has considerably above-average intelligence, and is interested and capable of understanding a variety of scientific fields as diverse as neurochemistry and quantum physics. She is a decent athlete, especially when it comes to swimming, her second favorite pastime. Her favorite pastime, and the thing most likely to get her recognized, is her violin playing. Michuru is a young prodigy, a concert pianist at only fifteen years old.

Michiru was aware of the fact that she had a destiny, but not exactly what it was. She is the reincarnation of Sailor Neptune, one of the Outer Senshi, and in her past life she was both the partner and lover of Sailor Uranus. Unlike Haruka, Michiru accepts the inevitability of her destiny with the same reserved grace with which she does all other things. However, she sometimes expresses her increasing feeling of disquiet in her art, particularly in her paintings (yes, she is an exceptional painter as well).

As a human, Michiru excels mainly in art and the sciences. When transformed into Sailor Neptune, she is much stronger, faster and tougher. This increase in power is proportionally higher than the Inner Senshi, due to her having been granted more power during the Silver Millennium. She is capable of producing blasts of magical water, and has an innate sense that warns her of active supernatural threats in her vicinity. This last ability allows her to home in on attacks from demons.

Sealed inside her soul was a talisman known as the Deep Aqua Mirror. This talisman is one of the three needed to summon the Holy Grail, but is also powerful in its own right. With it, Neptune can see through illusions and discern the weaknesses of her enemies. While the mirror may have other powers, its true potential is never fully explored.
