Rei’s grandfather, he is a Shinto priest and head priest for the Cherry Hill Temple. He tends to act like he is about forty years younger than he is, and frequently accosting young girls, but for all of that he is essentially good-hearted and cares quite a bit about his granddaughter.

Unbeknownst to himself, he is actually Bunbou, a reincarnation of one of the Seven Great Youma, a heptet of the most powerful servitors of the Dark Kingdom who participated in the attempt to destroy the Moon Kingdom millennia ago. He and the other six Great Youma were sealed by Queen Serenity inside seven shards of the Ginzuishou, and sent to earth where they were reborn millennia later with no memories or knowledge of their past lives. The shards of the Ginzuishou, called “Rainbow Crystals” due to each being a particular shade of the full spectrum of light, are sealed within the bodies of the reincarnated youma-turned-humans, and their ancient, evil powers sleep there as well.

He demonstrates slightly better than normal human physical abilities and some supernatural spiritual sensitivity, both of which are quite possibly due to the Rainbow Crystal within him.
